At home with HEW #01
Long weekend edition
It’s the long weekend and you are at home by yourself. Usually, you would be out celebrating this weekend with friends - going to restaurants, camping, catching up for cocktails. You can tell no one is visiting anyone this easter by the copious amounts of chocolate eggs on sale at the shops. No one is buying chocolate eggs because they have no one to give them to. Of course, you can participate in your household easter egg hunt but what are you supposed to after?
I started to compile a list to keep you busy and extends past scrolling tik tok lol
These are more wholesome activities which will help get you off the screen and reconnect. This weekend I focused on a lot of self-care as this is number one for me.
Nesting
If something is bothering you in your house, now's the time to change it. If you want to move some furniture, rearrange the space, clean out the wardrobe or hang some artwork. Now is the time to clear unnecessary furniture collecting dust. You will be spending a lot more time in your house so why not make your space the most beautiful space it can be. During our ‘At home with HEW series,’ we will explore the wardrobe by giving tips on how to reduce, reuse and recycle your clothing in the house.
Meal Prep
If you are like us you will notice the influx of fresh homegrown produce such as cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes, beetroots ect. If you are finding it hard to find fresh veggies joining a local food co-op where you can get a box of organic veggies fortnightly, we are with the Mycelium one.
Now you have the time to savour extra vegetables by preserving such as fermenting or by pickling cucumbers, chillis, cabbage.
Here is a pickling recipe I used
heat in a large pot 1/3 white vinegar, 1/3 apple cider vinegar and 1/3 water with 1/2 cup of raw sugar.
in sterilised jars put 1/4 teaspoon of salt, peppercorns, cumin seeds and coriander seeds with I clove of garlic and 2 bay leaves. After stacking in the food you wish to ferment, then fill with vinegar to the top and place lid on tightly. Keep for 6 -8 weeks in the fridge.
Things to remember when you are trying to keep healthy, eat healthily! Fresh veggies, chick soup, salads 'keep it lean and green'. Check out these healthy
Self Care
Make sure to practice self-care, exercise, meditation, stretching and keep hydrated. Take time out to laugh and check-in with loved ones.

If you have the space to set up a yoga mat in your house there are lots of online classes to keep you fit during this time. I will be starting free online Pilates classes next week, you can follow here to get news on the release.
The best thing you can do for yourself in the morning is getting outside to have the sun on your face. Vitamin D has been proven to lower risk against Influenza and viruses. I have been going to the local park each day to run, walk, stretch. It’s a great way to reset for the day and make a transition into work mode.
Another great way to transition into work mode is to get properly dressed and put on makeup as if your going to work. Check out my IGTV below
I hope this post has been useful, I will try my best to keep them coming each week,
Feel free to comment below on any topics you want me to cover in the future : )
Hope you are all safe and well
