Story Behind Our Tie Dye Pieces

Who doesn't love the transformative nature of dyeing: taking something you’ve had and giving it a second life? We always want to make sure that no product goes to waste, so when we had some organic hemp fabric leftover, we decided to give it new life with our signature tequila sunrise tie-dye.

The best thing about this range is the way the organic hemp takes to dye so well, resulting in beautiful and vibrant colours. The hemp has been softened with tie dye, making the fabric softer. It's a win-win situation.

Tie dye originated in ancient China, where it was used to dye silk fabrics. Eventually, the technique made its way to Japan, which was used to create patterns on kimonos.

The first tie-dyeing method that we're familiar with today was developed in India in the 6th century. This method involved tying small bundles of cloth together before dipping them in dye.

The tie-dyeing technique eventually spread to other parts of the world, including Africa and Europe. In the United States, tie-dye became popular in the 1960s as a symbol of the counterculture movement.
